I just want to shout out Shields94 on Da who did these fantastic works for some of my Warriors ocs: Parrotpaw, Sparkbelly and The Flower sisters! Thistleflower and Rootflower/Star. I was not expecting these, so big thanks Shield!

The whole painting is richly symbolic and repays deeper study, I am still trying to decode the meanings. Many of the details of the horses harness, shields, helmets and weapons were drawn from actual Bronze Age and Iron Age objects.

Maurice of Nassau was fascinated by antiquity and thought he could counter Spanish pikemen by emulating Roman legionaries, giving his men big shields!

But once he put them in mock fights they did not prove successful against pikes.
