Today's #SundayFishSketch is all about fish skeletons! Had enough time today to do a wolffish skull (Anarhichas lupus).
I may or may not currently be skeletonizing a wolffish as we speak 👀
I decided to experiment with oil pastels and came up with this quick sketch: say hello to the fish that doesn't exist: the Rooster Elvisfish, a distant cousin of the beta fish 😂 #SundayFishSketch
Big thanks to @CreativeMitch 💙 for nominating me for the #SundayFishSketch #arttrain.
Gonna nominate some fin-tastic wildlife artists to join in: @hatchlingmakes @bighippoart @elvenwish
#sundayfishsketch draw a fish that doesnt exist. I went a little silly here. since technically this fish exists and doesnt exist at the same time. beware!
Humbled for your kind words, @drawanotherfish! Will gladly QRT on this #ArtTrain and nominate other inspiring and creative souls. Here are a few fav memories over the ages, beyond #SundayFishSketch. Now I direct you to the talented @JoseBilingue @Sarah_Gilman @commnatural! [1/2] https://t.co/Zd0YEYonlL
M is for Maingano cichlids!
This week's #SundayFishSketch theme was "Fish starting with the first letter of your name". There are so many M cichlids, but the bright stripes on Maingano are definitely a standout. This is a male, identifiable by yellow egg spots on it's anal fin!
I share my LS initials with the largetooth sawfish! #SundayFishSketch #SciArt
The long spined porcupinefish can of course inflate itself and its neurotoxin-tipped spines as a means of warding off predators. However, it is also sometimes known to use its inflation technique to wedge itself into crevices when it rests! #SundayFishSketch
I am not sure if this counts as #SundayFishSketch but I have a lot of work with #Mermay so here is one for both: a mermaid for day 15: lemon shark
The floating river and big fish; a more conceptual piece I did earlier this year 🐟 #SundayFishSketch #sundayvibes
Momma Geophagus altifrons and her babies for Mother’s Day #SundayFishSketch
Childcare can be tough no matter your species - just ask the mouthbrooding cichlid moms!
Females of several cichlid species hold their developing young inside their mouths until they hatch, making feeding impossible - so Mom may go without eating for weeks #SundayFishSketch
The threadfin rainbowfish is not a true threadfin in the sense of the #Fishytheme as requested, it is a popular aquarium fish. but I felt the fins looked really fun to draw, and they were! #SundayFishSketch
A couple of common threadfins that are not too cool to school. #sundayfishsketch
While not classified as endangered, the orange roughy population is rapidly declining due to overfishing. This may be exacerbated by it's long lifespan; they reach maturity at ~20years. #SundayFishSketch
Happy birthday @Lampichthys! here is clownfish for the party🎊🥳🎈. Wishing you a a fantastic, fishy year! Thank you for the giving us #sundayfishsketch 🐠🖌
Fish described in 1988 is the #SundayFishSketch theme.
Darters are always a favorite of mine. Here is Etheostoma pyrrhogaster - the firebelly darter, from the Obion and Deer Fork drainages of Kentucky and Tennessee. #SciArt
