A new blacknose shiner for today's #SundayFishSketch!
Though not discovered this year, I did have to update the families for all the North American minnows in from the last time I taught ichthyology since the reorganization into their own family Leuciscidae.
A stonecat for today's #SundayFishSketch! Like many social media users, they've adapted to dangerous environments by being prickly and a bit toxic.
A golden shiner with autumnal colors for this week's #SundayFishSketch!
Hey, it's my first #SundayFishSketch! This week it's a crossover with #InverteFest and I decided to draw a #Zebrafish larva hunting a UV-bright paramecium. It's a bit of a stretch but it's not like paramecia have a backbone anyway😬

Here's hoping your birthday doesn't suck, @Lampichthys! Thank you for building such a great community through #SundayFishSketch!!
hello #SundayFishSketch! i made these #Oarfish pixels quite some time ago - by now they are an integral part of my social media presence. the pair shows a daylight and a dark, bioluminescent version! i still love them dearly and will always be fascinated by this species.
Hello friends and followers, I didn't forget about #WhaleDayFriday, it's combined with #SundayFishSketch! I've gotten requests for shark drawings so why not share them finally!
California has a wide variety of shark species, but these three are the ones relevant to my research.
I actually have something for #SundayFishSketch! These are a variety of fish that would be important to humans living in South-Southeast Asia. Obviously not finished, but wanted to share!
All part of research for @Zay_ZYXWV 😁
Before continuing on the #FishABC journey, we jump to #SundayFishSketch (and a belated #inktober2021day18 - "moon") with an Opah or Moonfish circa 2016 (L) and last week (R).
Thanks to @Lampichthys for starting #SundayFishSketch! I LOVE seeing all the 🐟✏ each week 🙌
Happy off-theme #SundayFishSketch! The Great #Hammerhead is a coastal & pelagic shark found in tropical waters. Unlike many species, these sharks reach sexual maturity relatively quickly, at 5-9 yrs/o, & can live for up to 44 yrs! #SciComm #SciArt #Conservation #Sharks 💙🦈🔨
I had an urgin’ for some sturgeon this #SundayFishSketch! These fish can grow over 7ft long, and live more than 50 years. Unfortunately, the caviar industry has driven many species into the critically endangered category.
Thaumatichthys for a fashionably late #SundayFishSketch! This thing is just the best- it feeds on sea cucumbers and rotting seaweed and floats around pointing vertically, pointing straight down towards the seafloor. It's my favorite deep-sea fish, and I just love how weird it is!
I don’t work on Mondays so technically today is my Sunday, so here is my #InvasiveSpecies #SundayFishSketch! The Red Shiner, oh so beautiful but oh so invasive
One of the many #pridefishes for #SundayFishSketch! I chose the Irian red rainbowfish. I haven't drawn any pride month art myself (until now), and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to finally get a piece out there.
Happy #SundayFishSketch! Sorry I've been a little MIA, but I do look at them every Sunday, as I have for 2.5 years now! I wanted to add to my growing diagram of fish jaw cartoons. So today, I sketched the jaws of the magnificent tarpon (Megalops atlanticus). #Ichthyology #SciArt
Happy #SundayFishSketch! I needed a cartoon jaw diagram of Satanoperca oral jaws so... here they are! Adding to my growing collection... #Cichlids #Snootsquad #Ichthyology #SciArt
Happy #ValentinesDay #SundayFishSketch! I recently did some fishy outreach on ‘unique fish reproduction strategies (e.g. hermaphroditism, semelparity, mouthbrooding) and I think it’s a fitting theme for this weekend. Go eat some chocolate and sketch a fish. #fishyfriday #sciart
