my 3rd mountain landscape of the week is inspired by a recent trip to Tuscany, since time immemorial people have carved huge blocks of marble from these hills, creating one of the largest marble sculptures on the planet.

On the first Friday after the birth of a baby, Houseleek (Sempervivum tectorum) was mashed up into a poultice and applied to the infant. This was a Tuscan practice meant to encourage a long life.
