Zero (2012) and Genji (2016) were both clearly inspired by the Cyborg Ninja from Metal Gear Solid (1998), who I always figured was inspired by Evangelion Unit-00 (1995)

It took me several years before I started to accept that a big part of me naturally likes working more stylized. It never clicked for me that although I draw realism a lot, my early influences are nintendo games and anime. It's nice to let some of that out every now and then.

Like Morpheus before him, Sergei retained his intelligence and memories, and could still communicate with Wesker (possibly with telepathy, going by the novelization of Umbrella Chronicles).

Sergei's unique traits led Wesker to form a theory that host mindset influences mutation.
