In the Lake District for today's #MuseumsUnlocked. First, the wonderful @windermerejetty museum, reopened in 2019. Pair of paintings by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg, designed to delight a London audience: “Belle Isle, Windermere, in a Calm”(1786) and same “in a Storm” (1785).
@profdanhicks @IainArchaeolog @Pitt_Rivers @EnglishHeritage @HistoricEngland @CBANorth We've shared this recently, but here is a painting by local artist Jacob Thompson 'The Druids Cutting the Mistletoe' that hangs in our museum, you can see the stone circle Long Meg in the background. #MuseumsUnlocked

Scenes at Lake Lugano, Switzerland by G. Dolby (c.1907)
Painters on The Grand Tour were attracted by Switzerland’s sublime lakes and summits. The Alps, which had previously been seen as physical barrier to travel, became a destination in themselves.

Ok this is cute... Me vs my dnd character!
Temerity (no last name, he's a one-namer like Sting) is a tiefling cleric of Prometheus and an incurable dandy with a rapturous enjoyment of museums. https://t.co/Y2K1UnBcxT
