Experimenting with YouTube captions to see if I can replicate the formatting in the game's speech bubbles.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get an outline effect working for the SFX subtitle, but the rest looks pretty good.
It looks specially nice with the speech bubbles hidden.

-I blur it or erase the eyes’ lineart, I always put the pupil black or almost black so it doesnt get lost when I shade, when shading the eye I use a darker tone of it on top and also to outline for contrast (everything on the same layer but the pupil)-

I'm playing with unity's shader lab. I tried to fetch the texture while downloading and change the color with the shader or give an outline. I don't really understand the format, but it's fun! It's often dyed pink.

So I am noticing that with the exception of really small canvases , most of my large pixel art benefits from having no outlines and just being on a black background.

All the steps so far were done in Photoshop. With the art defined, I can proceed to vector it in Illustrator: pasting the jpg in a low opacity layer and using the pen tool to outline all of the shapes over it. Next, just need to color they all according to the ref!
