most of my stuff i do with colour blocking under a really loose sketch... or just painting over sketchbook pages. it's fun to see how things differ among other artists' processes, i think!

🖌️ New Project 🖌️ Loved this concept by and have been wanting to do a 3d diorama of a classic story book style traditional illustration for a while, this fitted that vibe perfectly. Going to be working on this for the next few days, Just started blocking out now 🌳🌲💚

And some progress pictures: sketch, initial blocking, current stage. It's so hard to actually make things emotive when I'm painting - my love of symmetry wins out on expressions - but something to practice.

3D interior modeling for the first time. These are for BG scenes on chapter 10 of my (to be updated) made 5 copies of the same room. Each had a pair of adjacent walls. This is so I can take scenes from each angle of the room w/out anything blocking the way

Commissioned by the ever radiant

This was one of the few times I experimented with blocking in the background first (character was added later).

🌿 Start to Finish 🍃

I've gotten way looser with my sketches to save on time! With paintings like this one I immediately go into color blocking and start refining shapes, usually on 1-3 layers. The sketch is only a guideline to get the composition nailed down.

Another piece that I started by blocking in the shapes. I really need to do that more often, it makes the process so much easier

Sometimes I have a hard time pinning down an idea and blocking out silhouettes is the only way to get it out of my head haha

I don't thumbnail as much as I should (I can already hear my visdev teachers yelling at me) and tend jump right in to blocking and make edits to the layout as I go. The second set of images, I was provided with the initial sketch as a guideline.

Was having a hard time finding something cause I don't keep a lot of my sketches or the colour blocking is my sketch and becomes part of the final lately w/ environment doodles... so have a from...last year? 2 years ago?

Lost a few hours due to a freeze and CTD that corrupted the Painter file and didn't supply a recovery in the crash folder, so that sucks. But it means I get to spend more time blocking in friends and thinking about the color palette, so it's not all bad.

WIP, of course!

Blocking in the colors on the previous WIP. I'm gonna leave it as is without refining it after.

I kinda wanna make it my next profile pic, but I already planned to use the full image as my banner. The solution requires me to make more art =u=

5. Environment blocking! Turns out I really enjoy this 😁 Hopefully you can see the progress with each one 🌟

My recipe for sanity: blocking twitter and bingeing on Golden-Age mysteries and drawing all the suspects

New illustration I'm working on. Been focusing more on having good compositions. I find I naturally gravitate towards a sort of painterly method for blocking things out. I then go back and line it out. And then I may paint over the lines, thereby wasting my own time. 😂
