HAWTHORN Sitting under a ‘hag thorn’ can lead to abduction by fairies. A single bush is often left to grow in the middle of a field rather than risk the wrath of the fae by cutting it down. The fruit or ‘haws’ are known as ‘pixy pears’ 🎨Rackham

Witches of Scandinavian folklore came up with a clever way to get free milk. They made troll cats out of nails and hair. They were often shaped as cats or hares and would steal milk or cream for the neighbours and spit it out into a manger.

For he comes, the human child,
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping
than he can understand.

I’m under the weather today. So here’s a bit of Arthur Rackham’s Edwardian, gothic magic to cheer us up: it’s a splendid witch and then a witch “in cat form” during the day. Hugs to you all 🤎

It's Day again! Secret of the Unicorn is probably the best-known book but I feel like Red Rackham’s Treasure gets overlooked. This story was my favourite as a kid and I’ll always be sad it didn’t make it into the movie! ⚓️🦈
