In the NES/FC version of DQ4, the Liquid Metal Shield can be bought at the Casino for 50K Tokens. In the remakes however, the shield is now in the possession of the Medal King and will only give it away for 52 Mini Medals.

We can assume that he won the shield fair and square.

Just found this Metroid mock-up I did a while back.

To save cart space the NES game stored its map as a grid of screens, each screen was a list of prefab blocks with xy coords. Would work well for Pico-8, but an original game would need a custom map editor.
