One would think that her hands being covered by black flames would make drawing her hands easier

This is how I practice:

Deconstruction: break down the gestures, shapes and proportions of a reference subject.

Recall: use the deconstruction to redraw the subject. In my case, at a front angle.

Critique: spot the mistakes.
