Went ahead and colored it. Normally she wears an armored kimono-like garb that is cotton-candy-colored with soft gradients. This one is inspired instead by the sunset.

For me, it very heavily relies on a good color scheme. (Like, a color scheme that isn’t extremely varied, like red and green) I also lean towards gradients but I know some people aren’t a huge fan of them. Here’s my favorite ponies I own as examples

Here's my source image and different outpts using palette of the image I made (I added the BG separately after the image was ready).

There's dithering in my version because the source material is full of gradients and I wanted to keep them. What would you expect my answer to be?
