Filling in the general space of the background and figure to gain more focus on the subject. Gave the dress a blueish hue to contrast the skin while bridging that aqua green highlight cuz we're sick like that

because i like messy coloring and rendering something for me is just slightly adjusting the hue over and over. also the shading and lighting helps a lot. and even then my shading is just a multiply layer and my light is just an add-glow layer. and its cel shading too

I usually sketch, line art, then value render until I feel satisfied. I use a Hue/Saturation to change my value color to a base color. I add some other colors underneath that base and add more objects like eyes. I use liquify to fix the shape and add hair and highlights.
