He is, ironically, the equivalent of a bad luck charm, and unintentionally causes a string of bad things to happen fairly often. Although things look glum sometimes, he's got a pretty good life in spite of it all.

This comic manages to address the issue without making it the center of it. Personally I wouldn't have done it exactly like this, but I don't have an issue with this despite Assigned Male often being on the preachier side, a great way to make people aware without being anti-fun.
