Yeah that's what they used to do for the artwork in the Dreamcast Era of Sonic. Starting with Sonic Rush, the art got more detailed and "realistic" with Sonic's proportions, so no more stretchy rubber like shoes or cool looking posing

[8/9] I wasn't happy with tentacles AI kept giving me, so I decided to make one myself in ZBrush with some other props for the box, matching the proportions and angles. After this it was just overpainting and compositing. To het me to final result.
