if we're talking about mangaka with the best artstyle, Battan have a really special place in my heart. easily one of the most gorgeous, soft & distinct artstyle with really beautiful pastel colourings i've seen in recent years. it's just so delicate & rich with aesthetics 😍

She's not a "legend" in the way that a lot of the names being thrown around are, but I just really like Kei Sasuga who wrote Good Ending and the infamous Domestic na Kanojo. Her writing style is just incredible to me in how distinctly human all the characters feel.

completely case by case. If you're taking inspiration from an established character and making an OC with some similar characteristics and/or personality traits, it's fine as long as you put in the work to make that OC distinct.
If you're just making a glorified palette swap...
