@Verne_TheCFoxx I designed Luke myself, initially for a RP.
Quite frankly he often appears as a 'generic' blue wolf.
I'm not surprised your friend's character has some similarities, even though I don't know who. He does have a few gradients on, alongside a double scar as can be seen on the ref.
@braumsart that's a really good question! I guess my biggest inspiration would be Moebius for his colour gradients, clear values, and crisp lines!
Well... I just realized, they could totally do actual gradients without breaking the rules of the style if they allowed more creative characters.
Draggadon is mostly flat colors with patterns, BUT the uhh... stringy thingy gradually becomes a darker tone toward the tip!

Commission for Dragonfire2058 on instagram! so happy to be able to work with soft gradients for animations again!
last test gradient (I only posted what I would likely to use but there are a bunch of gradients there to choose)
test gradients (the last have a reddish color because I added multiply layer and put a reddish color underneath the gradient)
@StickyBM Mainly 3 parts: eye shape, iris design, and other details.
Colors are rarely pure color, like black or green. They always lean toward another color or have a little more brightness or darkness. Gradients are optional.
I try to make every eye unique for each character

Here some cosmic gradients.
@DaleJr @kylepetty @NASCAR I know you're always looking at different designs in the numbers, what is your opinion on stuff like designs, gradients, chiseled looks and such in numbers? What are the rules on these in NASCAR? My Family used to do stuff like that every so often.
Soft fur in warm colors.
Another character painting. This time of Vyre, a girl from a friends setting. I was asked to portray her with mocha colored fur and I enjoyed a lot to make those gradients look as pleasant as I could. :D

Next, once I’ve lined, I’ll go in and add hard shadows to the harshest areas. Think abt the subject outside in bright sunlight. There are some gradients in this phase but not many. Some areas are lower opacity (like shoulder wrinkles & lower legs) as they were too dark at 100%.
@dianasaurstudio On my most recent episode I tried out a few gradients to set the mood of the room or to show flashback
