He was in Rome 1513-6 & had a good relationship with the Pope & met with the French King. He entered the King’s service in 1516, & was given a Manor House & a pension. Woman (1508), Embryo (1509-14) & St John (1510-15). The latter was based on Salai, his lover.

1982's Conan the Barbarian has one of the best scripts ever put to page, up there with Citizen Kane or Lawrence of Arabia.
Director/writer John Milius wrote the scripts for Apocalypse Now and HBOs Rome
And this is easily his most coherent, most complete work
So, you see, the important is the outcome. He made it to Rome, he became an accomplished history painter and portraitist. He also went on to paint the only major contemporary portrait of Marshal Lannes, today in Musée national du Château de Versailles.
