Thank you so much for the support in the last tweet, this is a paleoartwork that I did for a contest on IG: Tepexichthys aranguthyorum from the Tlayúa Formation, Tepexi de Rodríguez, Puebla, Mexico #fossilfriday #fishyfriday #fishsci #paleoart #SundayFishSketch
Thaumatichthys for a fashionably late #SundayFishSketch! This thing is just the best- it feeds on sea cucumbers and rotting seaweed and floats around pointing vertically, pointing straight down towards the seafloor. It's my favorite deep-sea fish, and I just love how weird it is!
Matilda took more time on this than any other #SundayFishSketch
This isn’t the first time that she’s traced an image for the outline, but this is the most careful that she has been.
Not sure if im doing this right, but i drew Groenlandaspis for #SundayFishSketch
Again... these aren’t new... but here are my #anglerfish for the #sundayfishsketch
Deep sea anglerfish, like Bufoceratias wedli, are known for their lures (called esca). The ends of these lures are filled with bioluminescent bacteria that glow in the darkness of the deep sea, attracting prey to within striking range of its razor-sharp teeth #SundayFishSketch
Two entries for this week's #SundayFishSketch to make up for the lack of colour!
I just learned about @Lampichthys #SundayFishSketch and was so excited I had to do it a day early. this weeks prompt was “Anglerfish”.
Going for a cut paper style in procreate; a handsome warty boi (A. maculatus):

Watercolor of a Clown Triggerfish for this #Sundayfishsketch. I have never sketched Triggerfishes (Balistidae) or Filefishes (Monacanthidae) so the #fishytheme of “Pick a species of triggerfish or filefish and draw away” was a real challenge for me. #sciart
In typical Matilda fashion, having been excited to draw a triggerfish for today’s #Sundayfishsketch she then changed her mind and has now done a yelloweye filefish.
Full disclosure: this #sundayfishsketch is cheating and I didn’t draw any of these this week! But here are the triggerfish and filefish I’ve drawn for my dangcutefish Instagram account! I LOVE #filefish and #triggerfish!
Today's non-game #freshwaterfish #SundayFishSketch is a male #Swordtail, one of my fave #aquarium #fish! #Stickers available at https://t.co/BObt95Agb6 #illustration #Copics #TraditionalArt
The #SundayFishSketch brief sketch allows me to sneak back into elasmobranchs as they weren’t one of the restricted freshwater families.
So I’ve gone with a Whiptail stingray.
Australia's salamanderfish (Lepidogalaxias salamandroides) is an odd one - this cylindrical-bodied fish can 'stand' on its pelvic/pectoral fins and also bend its neck to the side at a right angle, compensating for eyes that can't move independently #SundayFishSketch
Whoops! I misread this week's #SundayFishSketch as fish ONLY from Cypriniformes, Perciformes, or Cichliformes...
Here's some more aquarium fish:
🐟 Tetras are Characiformes
🐟 Corydoras catfish are Siluriformes
🐟 Livebearers are Cyprinodontiformes
🐟 Gourami are Anabantiformes https://t.co/zawHFW2IO4
In 2020, all of the 17 fish species endemic to Lake Lanao in the Philippines were officially considered Extinct or Possibly Extinct, including Barbodes lindog AKA Lindog. The loss of the native fish community was caused in part by introduced fish species #SundayFishSketch
Virtual trip to Lake Lanao in the Philippines. Apparently lots of cyprinid diversity lost to overfishing and introduced species. Here are 2 that were declared extinct by IUCN in 2020. #SundayFishSketch
*trying again with corrected acronym*
I got a new iPad for Christmas, this is the very first Monday #SundayFishSketch made on it. Still a lot to learn, but a substantial upgrade from my cellphone screen. Here a lil' octopus 🐙.
