Australia's salamanderfish (Lepidogalaxias salamandroides) is an odd one - this cylindrical-bodied fish can 'stand' on its pelvic/pectoral fins and also bend its neck to the side at a right angle, compensating for eyes that can't move independently #SundayFishSketch
Whoops! I misread this week's #SundayFishSketch as fish ONLY from Cypriniformes, Perciformes, or Cichliformes...
Here's some more aquarium fish:
🐟 Tetras are Characiformes
🐟 Corydoras catfish are Siluriformes
🐟 Livebearers are Cyprinodontiformes
🐟 Gourami are Anabantiformes https://t.co/zawHFW2IO4
In 2020, all of the 17 fish species endemic to Lake Lanao in the Philippines were officially considered Extinct or Possibly Extinct, including Barbodes lindog AKA Lindog. The loss of the native fish community was caused in part by introduced fish species #SundayFishSketch
Virtual trip to Lake Lanao in the Philippines. Apparently lots of cyprinid diversity lost to overfishing and introduced species. Here are 2 that were declared extinct by IUCN in 2020. #SundayFishSketch
*trying again with corrected acronym*
I got a new iPad for Christmas, this is the very first Monday #SundayFishSketch made on it. Still a lot to learn, but a substantial upgrade from my cellphone screen. Here a lil' octopus 🐙.
#sevengill, #secondbestshark. Worked with these beasties for a number of years. Love them. Seven gill shark or dirty oven mitts as a colleague here calls them. #everydayisSundayFishSketch
Getting into crunch time on Day 20 of #WatlFishmas so I need to turn it up a notch. The Olympic Mudminnow may be cute cut can it hang with this crew (pocket shark, Acyrtus clingfish, Jeboehlkia, and Palatogobius)? #25DaysofFishmas #SundayFishSketch
An Olympic mudminnow for this #SundayFishSketch and #25DaysofFishmas
Congrats to all the #SundayFishSketch-ers - you all deserve a gold medal for guessing the Olympic mudminnow! 🏅
Thanks for everyone's participation throughout this year’s #SundayFishSketch-#25DaysofFishmas team-ups! And to @Lampichthys for creating such a wonderful community!
Started the sketch for today’s #SundayFishSketch / #25DaysofFishmas at 5am but didnt get a chance to finish until now.
This long boi is an Alligator Gar (Atractosteus spatula) - a bony fish that lives in swamps, bayous, & slow-moving rivers in southern US and northern Mexico.
Two-fold contribution today. I’ve committed to a collage of each region @DrKatfish is posting for #25DaysofFishmas (one left to add) and a WIP for this week’s #SundayFishSketch guess - alligator #gar
Congrats to everyone who guessed "alligator gar" for this week's #SundayFishSketch-#25DaysofFishmas mash-up!
i made these a while ago but i still like participating in things #SundayFishSketch
The best three-horned face of the #Cretaceous was a fish. Don't @ me. This is #Tricerichthys wenzi (Taverne & Capasso 2015), a pycnodont that resembled a sea robin head on a filefish body. Thread (1/4) #SundayFishSketch #SciArt #PaleoArt #TeamFish
#Beatles song theme this week. Took a trip back to the White Album for...
🎶Everybody’s got something to hide except me and my Pacific Monkeyfish 🎶
Also known as the Daruma Stinger or Pitted Stonefish. A benthic fish of the western Pacific #SundayFishSketch
An oddball species which was fun to draw: Xyrichtys incandescens which is quite distinctive but unlike the other W Atlantic Xyrichtys is rarely seen or photographed. Not even sure what the female looks like but this is the terminal male #SundayFishSketch
Tried to fit an #anglerfish into this shape for #sundayfishsketch #fishytheme #digitalart @shapesketchgame @Lampichthys
