Shocking. In his book "The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals" (1872) Charles Darwin used illustrations based on experiments by French neurologist G.Duchenne. He applied electrical currents to people's faces to "...obtain whatever expression one wished to reproduce"
In just over a week's time I'll be swimming with crocs and visiting #schools in #Darwin and the #NT on my #author / #illustrator #tour. I'll be giving one adult #ArtWorkshop at #NorthcliffLibrary. Bookings are essential.

Fact #3: How did Darwin feel about his theory of evolution by natural selection at first? It was "like confessing a murder," he wrote. Imagining the public reaction filled him with dread. Yet gradually, over a decade or so, Darwin began letting trusted friends in on the secret.
For "Zoology of the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle" #Darwin enlisted naturalists in various fields to author each part. He served as editor, provided extensive notes & authored a geological intro. View the books via @NHM_Library & @MBLWHOILibrary https://t.co/qUztmnu7ua #DarwinDay
Happy #DarwinDay! Check out Darwin's children's #BioArt, drawn on an #OriginofSpecies manuscript draft ca. 1885. https://t.co/casFuQWaow
1/2 #OnThisDay in 1877, Darwin was presented with two photograph albums showing Dutch, German and Austrian scientists to mark his 68th birthday. We've collaborated with @MyDearDarwin at @CamDigLib to share these online for #DarwinDay https://t.co/pSL6Jd1qvs
