another good example of how I usually reference my environments. the shape and values are very much there, but I tweak the colors and stylize to make it my own. after the general shape is down I usually look at the ref less and less and do what feels right.

Decided to plan out the background and values before starting coloring. Hopefully this will help me actually portray depth? I’m gonna have to use a grid to refine the perspective tho

Wanted to get back to my roots and draw some classic anime style stuff. Did this study after work, mostly referenced old #Macross art along with some other OVA mech stuff. Currently breaking down the values, going to figure out the shadows next. This line art style is cathartic.
Here is another attempt at scenery. I think I might be relying too heavily on texture brushes and the values clash at points. I will say, I don't dislike it though.

Day 1730: Sprawled out! Another simple result. Kinda went through this one pretty quickly because I had a bit of a headache. Still, I'm comfortable with this process. I really like thinking of values in terms of three too, I think it's been a fun experience to practice this!
