Fish described in 1988 is the theme.
Darters are always a favorite of mine. Here is Etheostoma pyrrhogaster - the firebelly darter, from the Obion and Deer Fork drainages of Kentucky and Tennessee.

Throwback doodle to my grad school days when I invented this superhero fish, the Caped Cod. Apparently he is fighting a capitalist Gulf Stream Eddy? I'm not sure what I intended back then...

The Japanese Dace (Tribolodon hakonensis) lives in Lake Osorezan in Japan, which has a pH between 3.8 and 3.4. I imagine swimming around in a lake with the acidity of sauerkraut has the potential to be an interesting superhero origin story

Happy off-theme The Great is a coastal & pelagic shark found in tropical waters. Unlike many species, these sharks reach sexual maturity relatively quickly, at 5-9 yrs/o, & can live for up to 44 yrs! 💙🦈🔨

The Mighty Sucker will leave no rock unturned to fight the criminal, he's the super fish for the job! (Thanks I think the input of sucker videos on my feed inspired me!)

A needlefish as "The Needle" for today's superhero .
She and her friends punch holes into whaling and industrial fishing ships.

Also I’ve been slacking on and drawing in general, so here is a Warpaint Shiner. They have such amazing blue undertones, why not make them pop!?

My favourites sea creatures for Easter are a nudibranch and an octopus.
But my second thought was a seahorse as an easter bunny.
So my will be probably a Monday-Sketch ... lots of details ... 🙄😉
Only done a 5 Minute sketch 🤦🏻‍♀️ - until then - Happy Easter 🐟!

For today's I drew a Devils Hole Pupfish (still a work in progress...). The only relation to the theme is that they, like bunnies, are cute 🐰On another note, I finally have prints up for sale on my website. Link is in the thread.

This week's plays dead and is a mouthbrooder: Livingston's cichlid. This particular species is native to Lake Malawi in Africa. It seems to play dead to lure in prey, and then quickly snaps it up!

In accordance to character, I present this and double-whammy a week and a day late. XD Eonatator sternbergii and an early relative of the benthic fish Sorbinicharax verraesi. Blub blub! 💙
