i usually just start with a circle for the head and draw the rest of the body in a simple way, then i start erasing stuff and modifying shapes till i make it look how i want it to look in the final version

i like to keep stuff simple

I usually do cell shading, and some soft erasing. Making it a gray tone, either warm or cool depending on the colors underneath and the lighting of a scene. I turn the color layer off so it's just the line art, paint the color in, set it to multiply and lower the opacity.
