Did a super quick doodly painting to practice using values properly. Halftones, average light and dark, ambient lighting and occlusion... it's a lot to keep track of! But I'm getting the hang of it.
hi here's the black and white. I don't use grayscale to color, I just do value studies to i always put a filter of grayscale when i'm done coloring to check values ;w;

Although the production values are nothing special, the art direction & music are really good. Not Mushishi-level good, but they really add a lot to the atmosphere. I’ll savor this every morning.
3) Focusing on temperatures warming and cooling the colors without messing too much with the hue or values (saturating the colors for warms and desaturating them for cools)
2) Focusing on painting the overall values using just 3 colors (light, shadows and darker shadows jaja)
Still Life study with simplified values. Getting back to studying after adjusting to the stress of freelance life feels soo good!
Now my challenge is to keep on studying while juggling commission work, because I want to keep on growing 💪

Really liked the creature design I made and wanted to work on some of my light values. Really feeling it with this one. 🖤☠️
''Pump: I wasn't joking
Skid: ...I forgive you''
Pump is honest and Skid values that! And the fear only lasts for a few minutes, haha

Titan interior too red, rest cool. Nice values, I played a lot with distance. I explained how to create distance, but not how to emphasise close elements like WHT in top panel or Jean in bottom: I added a multiply bm layer over those elements, multiply makes darker and expressive
Black and white sketches ! Discover this method recently with works of Sung Choi and I find it really helpful to work on my compo and shapes 👀

Some designer tidbits for Susato!
When it came to Susato, Takumi asked Nuri to design a Yamato Nadeshiko (an ideal and beautiful lady with traditional Japanese values) student, so he started by drawing a simple, basic hakama outfit.

I finally got a better photo of my study of Kuroneko (1968). The values in this film are sooo striking, I really want to do more studies of it in the future.
i (loosely) applied shueisha's colors to my values and I believe this looks a trillion times better. it really is more of a matter of poor value choice than poor color choice (although I still think the saturation is a bit much personally) https://t.co/FPs9PgF8ms
