Back in 2001, I used that image on the cover of my first short story collection, which I later realized was a mistake, as it drove many readers away from the book instead of drawing them towards it. I switched up the tone for the 2015 paperback reprinting.

Victorians gave us the ritual of Xmas cards. Cheaper mass printing & stamps started the craze in the mid 19thc. Many assume their odd cards were based on morbidity, but scholars feel their idea of Xmas was also more secular, ironic & funny. The joke’s on us 😂
