Calarts teaches a weird ideology for character design based on marketability.

They focus on the the simplified silhouette of a character, if it's recognizable, it's "better"

As such, the internal designs (face, mouth, etc) are less focused on and become more generic.

Hot take
I find most "oversimplified" logos to actually be really good. I think this is the best the firefox logo has ever looked. The colors and the way the whole thing takes the shape of a fireball. Chef's kiss
