Two more Paleoart reconstructions: Russellosaurus; a small, primitive mosasaur from Late Cretaceous USA, and Veterupristisaurus; the oldest known probable Carcharodontosaurid from the Late Jurassic of Tanzania.

Well, two universities and a global pandemic later, I finally did it. I finally graduated. I'm happy to announce that I was accepted into Fort Hays State University. There I will be a grad student of Dr. Laura Wilson doing a thesis project on mosasaur ecology!

I missed but I'm going to cheat with

Something that became striking to me recently is that mosasaurs ascribed to the genus Tylosaurus have an incredibly long temporal range.

Coniacian to the Maastrichtian

That's like 22 million years.

Was watching a bunch of random videos about gators the other day so it got me in a crocodilian mood. Made a Deinosuchus who’s midway through munching on a small mosasaur it’s managed to sink it’s teeth into. Head is a tad too boxy albeit but was fun to draw nonetheless.

*Palaeontological, but yes! Both their relationship to snakes and other lizards, plus some features of the skull suggest that mosasaurs probably had some kind of forked tongue.

The Mosasaur illustrations by CM Kosemen.

He has one of the fascinating unique ways of depicting prehistoric animals i've seen. The unique colors and the choice of using a simple white circle for the moon, just gives it a very otherworldly feeling.

Some Mosasaurus for And no, we don't know that they had dorsal fins, but we don't know that they didn't either - the right parts of their soft tissues have not, to my knowledge, been preserved to indicate either way.

For check out this Globidens, a unique-toothed, inferred shell-crushing mosasaur, compared to the Nile Monitor, a known opportunist that sometimes eats shellfish.
