I think what I appreciate about the Knightfall storyline is how Azrael slowly altered the Batman costume over the course of the year, eventually leading it to be this weird amalgamation of Azrael's original look an Batman's, just to show how unhinged he's become.

I assume Batman is trending now because, on this day (Aug. 20) in 2005, The Batman's "The Butler Did It" debuted on Kids'WB! As with Batman Beyond, this series has a cool spin on Spellbinder - his design, the hallucinations, etc. - that's so genuinely creative!
