We’re returning to France today with Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot’s ‘Distant View of Corbeil from behind the trees: Morning’. Corot was a pivotal figure in landscape painting and his work influenced the Impressionists and Glasgow Boys. #MuseumFromHome #ArtCanHelp #QuaranTeamUofG

Souvenir de Mortefontaine, 1864.
Last night I was admiring a colorized photo by NVA war photographer Luong Nghia Dung of an artillery duel in 1968. I am haunted by its striking similarities to Corot’s Barbizon school plain air painting.
Here is his obituary. KIA 1972.

That he could paint this at that time!

Morisot visited the Louvre to copy as part of her ‘finishing’ & met Corot, Monet & Manet there. Corot introduced her (1860) to painting ‘en plein air’ & to the immediacy of observation & depiction. She continued to train under artists until 1864. Copy of Veronese (1858)
'Landscape.' Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot was the pre-eminent French landscape painter of the first half of the 19th century. Corot's France is a melancholically beautiful place, wan and silvery.

For today’s #MuseumMomentofZen, let’s bask in Corot’s Borromean Isles. The artist painted this nostalgic scene more than twenty years after his last visit to Italy—more poetic fiction than realistic fact.
