if you got the Sonic license, you wouldn't get access to the TV show characters, as they were under a completely seperate licensing agreement, possibly implying that DiC did have some rights to the characters which Sega had to share.

these same questions were raised by some ape owners when i open sourced my own ape in a fully layered file. if removing the traits of one ape makes it identical to another ape, then they are effectively twins which poses all sorts of licensing problems as you’ve pointed out
