One of the coolest details in Budokai tenkaichi was that Goku had 2 variations of his super saiyan look. The style from when ssj was introduced (Frieza saga) and when he fought cell (android saga)

So many shots straight up look like paintings brought into a 3D space. The misshapen models, the scratches, and hand brushed look.... it strikes a nice balance of being cartoon-y while also evoking a realistic painted feel.
