My character Nakki in yet another style. I wanted to do one that looked kind of comicish. So, I muted the colors excluding key areas and shaded with bold shadows. I also changed it up by putting her in casual clothes and drew her doing something cute.

Something ive been doing is adding a gradient on the base of where i want the shading to go
for example, here i put the gradient in the areas that are shadowed and added extra details from there

Jojo does this thing where it has these lil scratch marks above noses, I like to use something like that to show areas that project and recede, you can see it on nose bases (and sometimes I use them for texture in general)

Once flat colours are applied to the lines, shading is where things really take shape. I wanted harsh light with a lot of contrast, but not cartoon flat like I most often do. So one layer of really soft volumes, one for high contrast light, and one to deepen the darkest areas.
