Hair exploration I did last year with Octane render in c4d+Houdini.
Houdini didn't play any part in shading/lighting but was crucial for animation behaviour.

It depends on what artstyle I'm going for, the first image has a lot of layers because I paint and focus on the details for every part individually
But on the second image I use two layers only, with the sketch being blurred to serve as lineart and softshading https://t.co/Ke8YHg7Tri
my first shading is usually not perfect, this is an example of it, if i feel like "ok this is ugly" ill just create a new layer and try to redo the shade, here's an example
@Mrs_Muguruma He's my inspiration too so YAAAY SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS!! *^* honestly you do so well with his canon characters already, so I'd just say keep at it!! You could add hatching / cross-hatching if you wanted, since that's heavily used in his style for shadows / shading =D
A practice doodle that I made today! I liked it so much I inked and colored it. The shading was super simple and quite fun!
