it was just supposed to be a simple doodle but it ended up being a full illustration lol. i tried out some grayscale painting and its kinda fun! i still dont know what i'm doing with it fully though, but it's a little simpler than coloring normally haha.

Grayscale art! I've always loved the outcome of my grayscales before coloring them and it made me a little sad I couldn't post them without feeling like a double post of the same art, but I think some might love to see them ^^

This was done original in grayscale and colored using mostly gradient maps and layer masks, and the second one is just changing the colors in the base map. It's really a good way to get clean vibrant coloring over gray if you want to try messing around with it

depends, if you are doing a manga, it would be better to inking all in unless you want to go further beyond, but what I usually do is put a reference pic in grayscale so I can understand it. This is what I did last year with this pic with similar hair to what you are showing

I have a bad habit of doing things on the fly so I decided to try shading in grayscale first so I'm totally sure of my direction going forward
Now I just need to find time to color it >_<'

I also work with shapes! I usually keep it grayscale too just so I can focus on the design elements + concept as I find introducing colours comes instinctively for the final. I've tried using just lines for roughs but I'm never satisfied with the output 😅
