As the pod symbolised rebirth in the story (named after Khapera, the Egyptian god of renewal of life) this design echoed the shape of the female reproductive system. But we soon decided the design was too aerodynamic.

I think most of it was inspired by a Facebook game that I played, Cybermon the name, I played a lot for a short time, but I loved the sprites that the game had, and I tried to reproduce them, I think that was when I started to notice that I liked to draw pixel art.
