Martin Lewis (1881-1962) was an Australian-born printmaker who traveled the world before settling in New York City in 1900. His images of 1920s New York street clearly influenced Eric Hopper's famous "Nighthawks" (pic 4).

The illustrations in the books are a combination of pen drawing (on vellum) and digital coloring. From there, we'd create 2 printing plates for the printer, which was tricky. The duotone process was inspired by the early editions of "The Wonderful Wizard of OZ" from 1900.
