Day 33: Artemisia Gentileschi, David with the Head of Goliath, 1638-39. Oil on canvas, Private collection. The newest addition to Artemisia’s oeuvre, the artist's signature was discovered during restoration. It seems seems to have painted when the artist was briefly in England.

Day 4: Artemisia Gentileschi, Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy, oil on canvas (Private collection). This painting was done in Rome either c. 1610-12, when she was a teenager, or a decade. Either way, it's a powerful response to Caravaggio’s lost version (known through copies).

Voilà 4 women artists whose work deserves recognition. They toiled in the shadow of their male contemporaries. Everybody knows Frida Kahlo, have you heard of Helen Frankenthaler, Artemisia Gentileschi, Berthe Morisot & Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun?
