Game canon is a bit different. Mudkip was her first, though there is a Jirachi event art that showed her w/ a Torchic and Pikachu.
Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire's trailer gave her both torchic & mudkip as starters, but it's clear game May's partner of choice is meant to be Mudkip.
