Based on observation that scale size and coloration often doesn't correlate I wonder if the scale patterns in Edmontosaurus are instead linked to folds and ridges, similar to tuataras, making the whole thing more functional than ornamental.

This little guy was supposed to be a steel type rhino, got the idea from the fact that a rhino's skin folds looks like armor. It's constantly found eating metals and ores to strengthen its armor. depending on the metals it eats its armor may change color
