@narfnra PC emulator vs original console on a CRT. It's really amazing how beautiful this art is as it was originally meant to be seen
U.N. Squadron (1991, Capcom) - SNES
PC Emulator vs. SNES S-Video via PVM-20L2MD
This game is just stacked with beautiful portraits and illustrations that look amazing on a CRT.
Re LRT. It's amazing how far CRT shaders have come and why their ease of application makes Retroarch my main emu platform. The left pic is using the 'crt-yo6-KV-M1420B' slang shader, the closest one I could find to the TV mentioned, while the right is a Royale 320px composite.
@Aisk79 That's the whole point, it uses HDMI, and crt's only have AV
Samurai Shodown II (1994, SNK) Neo Geo
RGBPi Raw Pixels vs. RGBPi via Sony PVM 20L2MD RGB
I sometimes get criticism about color changes from the raw pixels, but look at Haohmaru's skin tone here. You can't tell me SNK didn't intend for these colors to change on a CRT.
Just tried the @Mattias_G 's CRT shader with some old stuff and I really like it!

People asked me if my doom menus from last year were made with the games original pixel stretching in mind, & no, they were not. But thanks to @Mattias_G's wonderful CRT filter we can now behold that look. This first one fared quite well with the bloom n stuf

It should surprise no one that I am going to be doing more Sailor Moon screencap drawings.
From Sailor Moon's Tiara attack, my original drawing is on the left and the right I messed around with a few filters to make it look more like its from an old CRT TV.

Ristar (1995, Sega) - Genesis/Mega Drive
RPi Emulator vs. PVM-20L2MD RGB
I am stunned by the way the CRT's deeper contrast transforms the purples and blues here.
why have i never seen a shrek crt tv head, someone pls ruin their shrek tv to do this
Friends have converted me to the CRT religion so here's various stuff I made with something like it
@Ryuutsu Game's name is Prehistoric. I sense some irony is afoot 🤔 oh, and you better bet it was on a B/W crt monitor!
I used procedural textures in Blender, trying to emulate texture from PS1 games. @MrmoTarius instead of creating tiles I went for larger textures (Vagrant Story was my reference for stone floors), but I want to experiment with tiling too. CRT emulation adds a ton of flavor.
@DTerryM It's an interesting question and BoF has a variety of skin tones to compare, but I don't know if I'd say CRTs are the reason. Likely just the way that we whitewash most media in the west. I think they used warmer tones knowing l the CRT would change Ryu to match the concept art.
I've been experimenting with RetroArch filters, and I'd heard a lot of good things about CRT-Royale. I don't have a real CRT to compare it to, but it certainly seems to be a decent facsimile, including a hint of phosphor bloom! #RETROGAMING
