Demi Fiend is one of those characters that oozes personality without talking. The main character being a shirtless dude in tattoos ragdolling demons with his bare hands gives Nocturne a special charm. In some of the official art he's holding demons by their skulls.

I think it might be in the case of how they drew weasels. What they had for reference wasn't the full picture. Cartoon weasels had thin long snouts bc they were based off the skins. Same with dog skulls. You have the skull, but not the whole head.
