Day 27 - Coat

Thrush.

Thrush is a fungal mouth infection caused by Candida. It is more common in people with weakened immune systems.

Word of the Day: "siocán" - lit. "frost-bird"; Irish name for the redwing, a glow-flanked thrush arriving now from Scandinavia to winter on berries. Redwings often move at night, dipping in flocks across fields, singing to keep contact. Seen them yet?
(Engraving; HL Meyer 1842)

Mrs. Thrushwood is a blue ribbon winner for sure.

This is what happens if you eat too many pumpkin seeds, in October, in a pumpkin patch, and are a cute chubby mouse grandma.
Do your best to avoid it.

THREAD: My 6yo and I just read chapters 14 + 15 of The He had to hide under the duvet during Smaug’s attack of Eagaroth, but he was delighted with the talking thrush and Bard’s bow and arrow! 🏹 🐉

My 6yo + I got to the Lonely Mountain, saw Bilbo discovering the keyhole to the secret door (guided by the thrush) + enter the mountain to encounter Smaug + his bright hoard! He was enchanted + didn’t want me to stop reading! 🐉

One of my favorite Audubon plates - what a spectacular capture of the unfolding drama.

”Brown Thrasher, Ferruginous Thrush, defending nest against Black Snake, from Audubon's The birds of America”

And another with Lynxstar dad! This one's a twofer. On the left we have Fireivy with her two sons; Weedbird and Fishpaw, on the right we have Thrushhollow with her two sons; Toadwatcher and Rockpaw. Fireivy and Thrushhollow are sisters, and neither of them is official with Lynx.

I've mentioned this before, but among my favourite images are Laima Eglïte's shimmering illustrations for the 1991 Latvian translation. Here's four to savour - Bilbo watches the sunset by the thrush's stone, Beorn's house, Lake-town arrival and here be spiders...#Tolkien,

Another character, but not one I imagine i'll be drawing all that much.
Gotta have a big evil cat to fight our heroine Mrs. Thrushwood. The Tom to her Jerry.

Her name's Ambrosia.

Here's the request got yesterday: "Mrs. Thrushwood but 21st century"
All that would really change is the human technology around her though.

Made her a bit taller than she would be though.
She should be as tall as a phone, not 2x as tall.

Alpine birding today in north Greece on the tour I’m leading here for - views of Ortolan Bunting, Rock Thrush and Alpine Chough badly distracted by swathes of crocuses flowering across the mountain meadows.
