I found the concepts I did for the reindeer in Rime of the Frostmaiden! I'm very glad the light up antler were used, its based off real herders who paint their antlers so they won't get hit by cars. The antler shape is loosely inspired by a crescent moon (for a fairytale vibe)

Deer shed antlers (or the elk sheds it’s horns).

The elk is not naturally found in Japan but many of the seasons originate in China so perhaps imagination plays its part. Thoughts of mid-winter cold in a far away land.
