alternative version

part of my process with working with this kind of style is having to assign drastically different colors for each tone bc having them all be grayscale aint enough for my eyes

I shade using a single layer because it feels more organic to me. I also exclusively shade in grayscale.
I use the poseable 3D dolls that come with Clip Studio Paint for light and shadow references. It comes in handy for perspectives, too.

Omg, this is FINALLY DONE. 🥳 Shark-toothed guys are some of my favorite kinds of character designs ❤️ Includes the full color, one-color, and grayscale versions! I’m so proud of their fangs and I love these guys so much!

It's so much fun working on this, especially listening to the iconic theme song of while 😂 And I'm using grayscale, because I'm scared of the colors, lol.

Hi, I’m Jay, a demisexual/panromantic digital artist. I love drawing OCs, hands, and romantic junk, but I envy those who can do great BGs! I love color but grayscale shading is the real OG. 🖤🤍💜

A brief sketch testing out gradient mapping on grayscale. I definitely need more practice with it. Though it's definitely easier than individually picking out each colored shade and hoping for the best.

Here's a Izanami for my troubles though.

Felicia enjoying a summer breeze. This is the first time I feel like I've managed to put 's grayscale tutorial to good use, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to up their shading game.

Mad Max themed commission for ! Based on the aesthetics of the Road Warrior movie (1981), I felt like adding in a grayscale version for that classic cinema feel!
