On a side note... I don't think you need to limit yourself with only using the roman alphabet! If you wanna do all the sfx fully in Japanese ideograms, it's easier to translate it to your western readers. Like Dragon Ball does here with the "thud". You're free to choose ;)

A Random Alphabet full of Illustrators - M is for Marion Humphreys Matchitt (1899- 1967) an American Illustrator active in the 20s and 30s. The majority of those of her works I've come across are Pen and Ink, but she had an eye for colour too!
