The Lerk is a form of the Kharaa hive strain thats developed for flight and ranged combat. Pneumatic veins pump pressurized air into it's modified upper mandibles which act as gun barrels, loaded with an ammunition of teeth.

The Gorge's body has developed to support the growth and defense of the hive. An example of this would be the degeneration of it's ribcage as to allow more room for it's gestation organs to grow various Hive construct seeds.
