i feel like the whole relationship/marriage was a bad idea to begin with (although I kinda liked it at the start) and there was probably no good fix.

Englehart wrote it but used the pen name John Harkness because he didn't like editorial direction, and so he makes clones of the FF that are classic and has them act dumb and then tells the stories he wants as dreams that are "not allowed to happen"
