Yup, the penguins' natural color is blue, as seen in EP & PC.

It's canon that the colors are paint. Colors weren't introduced until PC3, which launched on 3/31/05.

Since Rockhopper was red when he left on 3/8/05, it means colors debuted sometime before/around early March 2005

While 16yrs ago was back around 2005, it wasn't until 2008 when I first posted my drawings of my characters.

And trust me, they looked hella rough.

You can definitely see how much their very first design definitely came the from the mindset of a then middle school girl.
