The Obol was an ancient greek coin made of bronze, copper or silver and popular for funerary use. Deceased were buried with obol coins in their mouth to pay the ferryman Charon for the passage across the rivers Styx or Acheron.

#Celtic water spirit the Kelpie, haunts rivers and lakes. Appearing as a horse with a wet mane, it lures people to ride on its back where they stick to it’s adhesive skin. The kelpie dives into the water drowns them then eats them.

In Welsh folklore the Gwragedd Annwn (known as Lake Maidens) are female fairies of great beauty that live under lakes and #rivers.
